What Is Catnip? | What Does It Do To Cats | How Does It Work | Benefits |

Today we are going to be discussing everything catnip! Catnip is a dried plant made into a spray/powder. It is from the mint family, and the oil that affects cats in the plant is called nepetalactone.

Some cats become very playful, so it's a fun and harmless way to keep your cats entertained. However, bear in mind that not all cats respond to catnip. It's estimated that 1/3 of cats lack the gene. Around 50% of cats don't show any reaction to it.

If you want to give your cat catnip, put a small amount into a bag or cloth. You can cut up nylon socks and put some in there. If you have it in a liquid form, you can spray some onto your cat's favourite toys etc.

When cats smell catnip, they feel a lot more relaxed. Especially when cats are pregnant/on heat, they are very stressed, so catnip helps calm them down. Another benefit is you can spray some onto their scratch post or toys they don't play with, and you will see them using these a lot more.

There aren't any drawbacks, as such. Ensure the catnip you buy is from a good company, and avoid letting your cat ingest some.

Catnip is usually given as a treat or to calm down and relax a cat. It's also very beneficial for training your pet.

Remember your cat will only enjoy it for 15 minutes and then will want something else to play with bored. That's just how kitties are!
