How Do You Feed A Kitten With No Mother? | Stray Orphan Kitten | Care | Tips | Bottle Feed | Safe

Today's blog post is critical, especially for breeders. Sometimes cats pass away after giving birth, so there isn't anyone to feed the babies. A solution could be getting a nursing cat, but you must know other answers.

The first question that may come to mind is what do you give the newborns. Obviously, you have to provide them with milk, but what kind? I recommend using KMR, if not lactose-free milk. Lactose-free milk can be found at your local supermarket. It has low protein and fat and isn't hard for your kitten to digest. Also, you can use Nido, bare in mind that your kitten won't grow as healthy as it would have if it had a mother.

When making the milk, make sure it is not too thick but also not watery either. To feed the kitten, you'll need a bottle (from a pet shop/clinic), tissue and some sort of cloth. Whilst feeding, make sure the kitten's face is facing upwards.

Give the kitten about 10 to 15 ml of milk, about 4 to 5 times daily. Clean the kitten's face with a tissue after you are done. Use wipes to clean the back area of the kitten because it obviously can't use a litter box at this age.

Ensure you don't bathe the newborn kitten because it can get very ill. Click here to read about newborn kittens and the precautions you must take when caring for them.

My previous blog post was about a diet plan for kittens. Remember, kittens under 4 weeks cannot eat solid food, so only feed them milk.

If a kitten doesn't have a mother, it relies on you to help it survive. Often, you may find abandoned stray kittens. Take them to an animal shelter if you can't look after them. If you want to take care of it, take it to the vet! You may find fleas/mites, and you won't know what to do if you are a newbie. Your vet can inform and help solve any other problems the kitten may have.
