How Often Do You Cut A Cats Nails? | Precaution | Tips |
Today I will discuss how often you cut a cat's nails and how to do so.
First and foremost, don't trim a baby kitten's nails. When they are around 1 month old, they learn new things. Clipping their nails might make them a little less energetic and even ill. You can start cutting a kitten's nails after it's around 3 months old.
Method:
Before trimming your pet's nails, regularly touch its paws, so they are used to being handled. You can wrap your cat in a towel so that it's easier to handle. Pull up the fur above the nail, and using a nail cutter/cat clippers, cut off only a tiny amount of your cat's claw. You should use special cat clippers so that there's no risk of injury. You can also use cat nail files to further shorten your kitty's nails.
In the picture below, I have circled (in black) the number of nails you should clip off. Make sure you don't cut more than that because your cat will start bleeding and be in extreme pain. Also, avoid trimming a cat's nails when agitated or stressed. You mustn't punish or shout at it if it tries to scratch/bite you.
It may be challenging to get your cat under control while clipping its claws. That's why it's best to trim them every 10/12 days so that it becomes a habit. Start cutting from when they are kittens. Not clipping your cat's claws can cause problems in the future. You can also get highly hurt if your cat happens to scratch you.
Additionally, your furniture will be damaged. Give your cat lots of treats after you are done clipping its nails. It may be stressful so try your best to calm it down.
