Mind-Blowing Facts About Cats!

 

Hi guys! Today's blog post is a little different. I will share some fun facts about cats I found on the internet. I thought id put together some of my favourite feline points into an article and share them with you guys!

1)We all know cats love to sleep but did you know that cats spend 70% of their lives sleeping! That's around 13 to 16 hours a day!

2) House cats share 95.6% of their genetics with tigers! They also share many behaviours such as scent and urine marking, prey stalking and pouncing.

3) The oldest cat in the world was 38 years old! He was 38 years and 3 days old when he passed away.

4) Ancient Egyptians would shave off their eyebrows when their cats died. All of the family members would do so in mourning.

5) The wealthiest cat in the world owns 7 million pounds! When his owners passed away, instead of giving his will to his family, he gave it to his cat Blackie!

6) A housecat can run to the speed of bout 30mph. That means a cat can outrun legendary runner Usain Bolt in a 200-meter dash!

7) Cats can jump up as high as 5 times their own height. Now that's impressive!

8) Do you notice your cat cleaning itself all the time? They spend between 30 to 50% of their day grooming themselves! Grooming helps them cool themselves down.

9) A group of kittens is called a 'kindle', and a group of full-grown adult cats is called a 'clowder'.

10) We know that some people are allergic to cats or any animal, but did you know that cats can be allergic to us?! 1 in 200 cats is believed to have asthma! This number is constantly rising among indoor kitties as they are more frequently exposed to cigarette smoke, dust, human dandruff, and pollen.
