Cat Panting | Why do Cats Pant?

Today I will talk about a problem cats usually suffer in the summer. That is when cats pant (heavy breathing), or you could say they start acting like dogs. We will discuss the reasons behind this and how to overcome it. Some reasons are familiar, others are uncommon, and others can be hazardous.

The first common reason is hot weather. In summer, cats usually start panting whether in an air-conditioned room or not. The second reason is dehydration. Whether it's the summer or winter, cats can be dehydrated and will start panting. The third common reason is when they are stressed. Especially when the cat is delivering kittens because that time is very stressful for her. Sometimes when a kitten plays, it may pant, or when you take it for a walk, it runs everywhere.

There are some uncommon reasons, so you should visit your vet to diagnose the cause.

Humans have asthma (breathing problems) and so do animals. If a cat has lung problems, then it will suffer breathing difficulties. When there are problems like heartworm, heart failure respiratory infection, there will be a lot of difficulty breathing. Other than that, if a cat is sick, even with flu etc., cat panting increases.

You should visit your vet if you notice your cat panting the whole day after small intervals.
