Flea's on Cats/kittens | How to go about the problem?| Day 4 |

So, after a few days, my mom found fleabites on her arm. We had discovered that the kitten had fleas! Fleas can also be dangerous to humans, and their bites can get really itchy and sometimes turn into a rash. Although the kitten had fleas, there was only a handful. However, an average female cat flea lays 20-30 eggs daily! Since fleas lay eggs in large numbers, a flea infestation can rapidly get out of control.

We mainly found fleabites on our hands and arms because whenever we pet Simba, the fleas would jump on our arms and hands. Fleas cannot fly, and they mainly jump from place to place. Although we found out Simba had fleas, through our flea bites, fleas can be easily tracked down through the dirt they leave behind. We mainly found dirt on Simba's ears and around them, but the little creature can hide in places like your cat's neck, armpits, and if your cat is long-haired like mine, basically anywhere because it is tough to hunt them down.

Fleas mainly transfer from one cat to another. The seller we bought Simba from had a couple of cats, so Simba must have gotten fleas from them. Usually, fleas can be found in shady areas near long grass or bushes while they wait patiently for their host to pass by. They can also come to your house by clinging onto your shoes or clothing. Fleas don't live on human hair but bite skin and suck blood to remain alive.

SOLUTION TO GET RID OF FLEAS?

Most veterinarians recommend flea spray by the name frontline or, even better, d-tick spray (a little pricier). Some say flea shampoos, powders, tablets etc., may be a waste of money or may cause damage to the cat. Veterinarians have recommended first dip a flea brush into warm water mixed with dish soap. This is a home remedy that may work to get rid of fleas. Vinegar and lemon can also kill fleas but do bare in mind cats don't like citrusy scents.

Since we wanted to get rid of the fleas as soon as possible, I went to my local supermarket and got some flea and tick spray (I would have had to get frontline or d-tick spray online, which would have taken time to arrive). As Simba only had a handful of fleas, I didn't find the need to get a big bottle of d-tick. You may need to, so please check with your vet.
